The minimum practical test covers vehicle selection, status changes, annotations, edits, certification, unidentified events, roadside display or transfer, and malfunction fallback.
What this means for your fleet
Use a training environment or supervised route and have the driver demonstrate each essential task. Record the device and app versions used so changes to the interface can prompt refresher training.
Driver demonstration record
The trainer should record pass, retry, or fail for nine tasks: unique login; correct vehicle; non-driving duty status; annotation; carrier-proposed edit review; unidentified-driving review; 24-hour certification; roadside display/transfer; and malfunction fallback. Record the driver, trainer, truck, device, app version, date, failed step, coaching given, retest date, and final authorization.
A driver who can sign in but cannot identify the transfer method or preserve a malfunction event has not completed onboarding. UI changes, a new device model, or a failed roadside rehearsal should trigger targeted retraining.
