Plan the collection added after the route starts
This page concerns trucks delivering rental equipment to customers, not a general ELD exemption for a rented truck. Choose a sample day with a planned delivery and a later collection request. Identify the driver’s loading, securement, handover and return duties.
When an unscheduled collection is added, review the revised assignment before treating it as an empty return trip. The driver may need time to prepare equipment for loading and complete the collection handoff.
Equipment rental delivery evaluation worksheet
| Assignment | Information to include |
|---|---|
| Outbound delivery | Truck, driver and preparation work |
| Customer handover | Actual unloading and handover duties |
| Return collection | Loading conditions and the driver’s responsibilities |
| Unscheduled request | Revised work, travel and the person approving the assignment |
Bring the actual truck configuration
Use the Factor PT30 vehicle-selection workflow to test any change between a delivery truck and a spare. Confirm the engine, connector and mobile-device fit for each configuration.
An ELD setup does not track rental inventory, certify equipment condition or validate the customer’s rental agreement. Keep those systems separate unless a specific supported integration has been confirmed.
For the broader fleet discussion, see construction. Use the ELD rollout checklist to assign training and review responsibilities, and check ELD applicability for the actual operation.
Equipment rental delivery questions
Is this the same issue as using an eight-day rental truck?
No. Delivering equipment owned by a rental business and operating a rented road truck are different questions.
Does the ELD prove that rented equipment was returned undamaged?
No. Use the business’s equipment inspection and handover records.
