Identify the vehicle that actually needs the connection
A tractor or machine on a trailer is cargo in this evaluation; the road-going hauling vehicle is the proposed ELD installation point. List its engine, connector and mobile device separately from the agricultural equipment being transported.
Use a sample assignment with preparation, loading, securement, travel and receiving work. Oversize permits, routing, escorts and cargo securement require their own decisions. An ELD demonstration does not approve them.
Agricultural equipment hauling evaluation worksheet
| Assignment stage | Question for the pilot |
|---|---|
| Preparation | When does the driver’s inspection and loading work begin? |
| Load ready | Which truck, driver and device are assigned to the road movement? |
| Long road leg | Can the driver access the required earlier records? |
| Delivery | What unloading and remaining duties follow arrival? |
Bring the actual truck configuration
The PT30 manual describes selecting the truck by number or VIN. Use that check to distinguish the hauling truck from any cargo identifier on the paperwork. Confirm each materially different road-truck configuration before deployment.
Ask the driver and office to review the completed assignment together. Document any missing period or vehicle mismatch. Do not assume an agricultural exception simply because the cargo is equipment used on a farm.
For the broader fleet discussion, see heavy haul. Use the ELD rollout checklist to assign training and review responsibilities, and check ELD applicability for the actual operation.
Agricultural equipment hauling questions
Does carrying a farm tractor mean the ELD connects to that tractor?
The equipment review here concerns the road vehicle performing the haul. Identify the actual truck and engine before selecting a device.
Will the ELD verify permits or escort requirements?
No. Keep permit, route, escort and securement decisions in their appropriate operating processes.
