Map the actual boundary of the road movement
Choose a shuttle movement and identify where it travels, who operates the vehicle and what work occurs at each end. Keep a plant-only equipment movement distinct from a road trip between facilities. Do not assume that every short movement qualifies for a special recording category.
Production completion, inventory transfer and loading acceptance remain separate business records. The ELD evaluation does not prove that material moved correctly through the manufacturing process.
Manufacturing shuttles evaluation worksheet
| Movement detail | Question to establish |
|---|---|
| Vehicle | Road truck, specialized yard unit or other equipment? |
| Route | Where does the actual movement occur? |
| Driver | Which named person operates each segment? |
| Work at each end | What loading, waiting and closeout duties apply? |
Bring the actual truck configuration
Ask Factor ELD to confirm compatibility for each road-truck configuration. Use the vehicle identity and log review documented in the PT30 manual for the applicable product.
Have the carrier review the rules and any permitted yard-move or short-haul treatment for the actual facts. A nearby destination or a shared company owner is not a complete applicability decision.
For the broader fleet discussion, see private fleets. Use the ELD rollout checklist to assign training and review responsibilities, and check ELD applicability for the actual operation.
Manufacturing shuttles questions
Is every shuttle trip a yard move?
No. Review the actual route, location and applicable conditions.
Does a highway-truck test prove support for a specialized yard unit?
No. Obtain a separate fit decision for different equipment.
