Make the plant-to-road responsibility clear
Use a sample load leaving a manufacturing or packaging facility. Identify the driver responsible for preparation, any movement before the road departure and the linehaul assignment. If different people operate the truck, the handoff needs a defined account and vehicle procedure.
The ELD review concerns the road vehicle and driver activity. Paper grade, packaging counts, loading acceptance and production inventory remain in the business systems that hold those records.
Paper and packaging transport evaluation worksheet
| Handoff point | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Plant preparation | Who operates the truck and what work occurs? |
| Linehaul departure | Which named driver and physical tractor are selected? |
| Destination | How are waiting and receiving duties reviewed? |
| Next assignment | Where are earlier records available after a vehicle change? |
Bring the actual truck configuration
The PT30 manual documents vehicle selection by number or VIN. Test that identity check with the actual outgoing and incoming assignments instead of relying on the trailer or shipment number alone.
Confirm each road-truck engine, connector and phone configuration. Do not infer support for forklifts or other plant equipment from a successful highway-tractor trial.
For the broader fleet discussion, see dry van. Use the ELD rollout checklist to assign training and review responsibilities, and check ELD applicability for the actual operation.
Paper and packaging transport questions
Can a shipment number stand in for the vehicle identifier?
Keep shipment and truck identities distinct. The driver should confirm the actual selected road vehicle.
Does a tractor test establish ELD fit for plant machinery?
No. Specialized or off-road equipment requires a separate product-fit decision.
