Recheck the setup before the first dispatch
Use a preseason review to confirm which road trucks will operate, which drivers will use them and what has changed in the phone, tablet or installed equipment. A device that was used last season still needs a current connection and account check before a new assignment.
Have the carrier establish logging applicability for its actual work. Snowfall alone is not a universal emergency exemption. Any claimed relief needs the relevant conditions and limits under 49 CFR 390.23 or another applicable provision; do not confuse an ordinary seasonal assignment with qualifying emergency assistance.
Snow removal evaluation worksheet
| Preseason step | Acceptance question |
|---|---|
| Vehicle inventory | Which actual road units and connectors will be used? |
| Accounts and mobile devices | Can each authorized driver access the correct supported setup? |
| Sample assignment | Can the driver select the truck and review the resulting record? |
| Return to ordinary work | Who reviews changed duties and any end of claimed relief? |
Bring the actual truck configuration
Ask Factor ELD to demonstrate the connection, vehicle-selection and log-review workflow documented in the PT30 manual for the proposed product. Resolve a failed check before relying on that setup for a road assignment.
Confirm equipment and plan terms directly with the company; seasonal suspension or automatic reactivation is not promised here. Snowplow controls, spreading quantities and route-service verification remain separate requirements.
For the broader fleet discussion, see construction. Use the ELD rollout checklist to assign training and review responsibilities, and check ELD applicability for the actual operation.
Snow removal questions
Is every snow-removal call exempt from hours rules?
No. Determine the actual operation and the conditions of any applicable relief.
Will an old account or seasonal plan reactivate automatically?
Do not assume that. Confirm current account access, equipment and commercial terms before the season.
