An ELD automatically records driving time and required vehicle data; the driver must accurately select non-driving duty statuses, annotate edits, address unidentified driving, and certify each 24-hour record. For the federal property-carrier 30-minute rule, any 30 consecutive minutes of non-driving time can qualify, subject to applicability and exceptions.
Driver’s day from login to certification
- Before movement: use the unique account, select the assigned vehicle/trailer, review prior unidentified or proposed events, and confirm date/time/location.
- During the day: driving is automatically recorded; select actual non-driving statuses, annotate material context, and end special categories when they no longer apply.
- At changes: verify vehicle/driver handoffs, edits, unassigned movement, and malfunction/diagnostic events before they compound.
- At roadside: produce the current day and previous seven days through the registered device’s supported display/transfer workflow.
- End of day: compare trip and record, review originals and proposed edits, add factual corrections, certify the 24-hour record, and confirm certification.
