Fleet Tablets for ELD: A Procurement Checklist

Factor ELD helps fleet buyers prepare the device questions that belong in an ELD rollout. Evaluate the tablet, operating system, app, mount and replacement process together instead of choosing only by screen size or unit price.

Factor ELD

Define the supported combination

An app-store listing is a starting point, not an acceptance test for every tablet in a fleet. Ask for current support information for the exact hardware model, operating system, app version and ELD combination. Keep that evidence with the purchase proposal.

Separate the primary driver device from the spare. A low-cost spare is useful only if the driver can recover authorized access and required records using the fleet’s procedure. Agree who owns the device, data plan, updates and replacement stock.

For a portable ELD, 395.22(g) requires fixed positioning during operation and visibility from the normal driving position. Confirm the mounting arrangement for the actual cab; a loose tablet on the seat is not an accepted deployment plan.

Buy against a recorded acceptance result

Use a representative truck and an authorized driver to check login, vehicle identity, connection, record review and the installed transfer workflow. Add the interruptions the fleet needs to handle, such as screen lock, a controlled device restart and switching to a spare. Record failures and retests instead of averaging them into a vague score.

This checklist does not recommend a particular tablet model or assert that every Android or Apple device works with Factor ELD. Confirm the proposed configuration before ordering the wider batch. Tablet procurement questions

Is the newest operating system always ready for fleet deployment?

Verify current product support and test the intended combination. A newer version is not, by itself, evidence that the fleet’s ELD workflow has been validated on it.

Can a shared spare use a generic driver account?

Plan recovery using the correct named driver account and the carrier’s access procedure. Replacing hardware should not obscure who performed the recorded work.
