Identify the U.S. assignment precisely
The City of Laredo Bridge System identifies World Trade Bridge as a commercial bridge and also lists commercial use at Colombia Solidarity Bridge. Confirm the crossing and terminal involved in your actual operation rather than treating every Laredo trip as the same route.
For an ELD demonstration, describe where the U.S. assignment begins, which driver and tractor perform it, and whether the driver has already worked earlier that day. Keep the shipment release and the driver’s available records as separate questions. A released load does not, by itself, establish that a driver may begin the next movement.
Keep two information tracks at the handoff
| Driver and vehicle record | Separate shipment or border process |
|---|---|
| Named driver, carrier and physical tractor | Broker, shipper and shipment reference |
| Correct account, vehicle selection and ELD connection | Crossing appointment, release or terminal instruction |
| Earlier work and required records available to the driver | Customs documents and cargo release status |
| Actual work and waiting during the U.S. assignment | Detention billing and terminal charges |
| Record review before the next driver or tractor takes over | Proof of cargo transfer or customer receipt |
This worksheet is an evaluation aid, not a border-clearance procedure. Factor ELD’s driver-log workflow does not replace customs brokerage, shipment release or Mexican regulatory requirements. Confirm any cross-border product requirements separately for the exact device and operation.
Use the actual replacement-tractor scenario
If a different tractor takes the U.S. leg, provide both vehicle configurations and show where each driver’s earlier records are held. Ask Factor ELD to demonstrate vehicle selection, connection and log access on the proposed configuration. Do not assume that records move automatically between separate carriers or unrelated ELD systems.
Factor ELD ships equipment to Texas fleets and provides setup guidance and support remotely. Confirm installation responsibility and delivery arrangements with the team before ordering. A truck’s engine and connector, along with the phone or tablet, need an individual compatibility check.
Use our cable and connector guide to prepare vehicle information. Fleets hauling enclosed general freight can discuss dry van operations, and the implementation checklist helps assign responsibility for the transition.
Laredo fleet questions
Does a U.S. ELD listing establish suitability for operations in Mexico?
No. Have the relevant requirements and the exact product configuration checked separately. This page addresses planning for the U.S. driver-log workflow and does not claim Mexican certification or customs support.
Can a new carrier ignore the driver’s earlier work?
No. Make the earlier work and record-access procedure part of the handoff. A new shipment, tractor or carrier account does not give the driver a fresh work history.
