Install the exact FACTOR ELD hardware/cable combination specified for the vehicle. After mounting and pairing, verify the selected vehicle, VIN, engine hours, miles, movement detection, driver account, malfunction indicators, and the registered device's supported roadside-transfer method. Do not move hardware between vehicles without reassignment and a new acceptance test.
PT30 pre-deployment verification sequence
- Match the exact FACTOR ELD/PT30 registration, hardware/software version, vehicle, connector, and provider-specified cable.
- With the vehicle powered off, check connector access, cable routing, mounting, strain relief, and diagnostic-port access according to the current Factor installation instructions.
- Power on the vehicle, assign the ELD to the correct vehicle profile, and pair the driver’s phone or tablet by following the app instructions.
- Verify VIN, engine power, miles, engine hours, motion, driver login, and malfunction/diagnostic indicators.
- Create a controlled driving event, stop, review the record, certify a sample day, and complete the registered transfer/display method.
- Record device/cable serials, versions, screenshots, truck, installer, test route, defects, support case, and acceptance.
Check the current Factor manual or ask support to confirm the screen names and cable part number for your setup.
What to check
| Check | How to verify |
|---|---|
| 1. Match the exact PT30 registry hardware and software | Save the dated registry result for the exact PT30 device name, hardware model, software version, registration ID, and status. |
| 2. Match the vehicle connector and provider-specified cable | Keep the vehicle/VIN, engine, connector photos, provider cable part number, written match, and pre-install inspection. |
| 3. Verify mounting, power, activation, and account assignment | Retain mounting and cable photos, stable-power result, device serial, vehicle assignment, driver login, activation time, and any defect. |
| 4. Verify the VIN, miles, engine hours, and a driving event | Record the physical VIN and simultaneous device values for VIN, miles, engine hours, movement, timestamps, expected result, and pass/fail decision. |
| 5. Practice transfer, malfunction procedures, and recovery | Save the requested range, transfer method and receipt, controlled malfunction exercise, paper-log fallback, rollback steps, defect owner, and retest. |
Before you act
Confirm compatibility, included features, pricing, support, installation requirements, and expected setup time for your exact Factor ELD product and plan. Ask the provider to support any reliability claim with evidence. Check Canadian certification separately before using the system in Canada.
Factor PT30 app setup: the documented controls
After the vehicle-specific hardware installation, complete these steps while parked:
- Sign in with your own assigned account. The PT30 manual directs drivers without credentials to their fleet manager or safety team.
- Match the truck by vehicle number or VIN. If it was preassigned, verify that assignment. Use Menu → Change Vehicle if reassignment is required.
- Select the truck’s ELD. The manual shows a green icon at the top right when connected.
- Check driver and vehicle details, choose the correct duty status and complete the acceptance checks above.
The manual documents the app workflow; it does not identify a cable for every vehicle. A connector that fits mechanically is not sufficient confirmation of compatibility.
