What to Do When an ELD Is Removed from the FMCSA List

Factor ELD explains how to organize a response when an installed ELD appears on the FMCSA revoked list. Match the exact device and follow its current official notice before deciding which equipment and recordkeeping changes are needed.

Verify the exact device, not a rumor about the brand

Start with the official FMCSA revoked-device list and the agency’s device-specific notice. Compare the device name, provider, model, software and ELD identifier with the installed combination. One supplier may have several entries; a brand-level headline is not enough to identify which trucks are affected.

Save the notice and the date you checked it. Follow its instructions and deadlines rather than reusing a transition period from an older news story. Do not assume that an app update automatically restores registration.

Turn the notice into a fleet action sheet

ActionEvidence to record
Identify affected unitsExact listing match, truck and installed version
Read the current instructionsOfficial notice URL, dates and required interim method
Protect record accessWhere required logs, originals and history are held
Select a replacementCurrent registered combination, vehicle fit and written proposal
Verify the transitionDriver login, connection, earlier records, transfer and office review

Assign an owner to each affected vehicle. A truck already equipped with a different, unaffected product should not be classified solely by the name on the fleet’s invoice. Equally, a familiar hardware model is not proof that the software on it belongs to an active registration.

Preserve the old records before closing access

Obtain usable exports and confirm that the responsible people can retrieve the required history. Do not cancel access first and assume the new device imports everything. Plan the changeover time, any interim records and the driver’s access during the transition.

Compare replacement proposals against the same driver and office tasks. Factor ELD can discuss its offered configuration, but a sales discussion does not replace the official notice or your carrier’s recordkeeping decision. Revocation questions

Is every removal subject to the same deadline?

Use the current official notice for the exact device. This guide deliberately does not prescribe one deadline for all removal events.

Can I ignore the notice because the device still turns on?

No. Working hardware and current registration are separate checks. Have the carrier follow the notice and verify the required transition.

Discuss your replacement ELD plan

Contact Factor ELD to discuss an ELD replacement for the vehicles affected by your review. Bring the exact current device details, applicable notice and record-access requirements so the team can assess the next setup.
